Abstract

The neovascular membrane represents the proliferation of neovessels from the choroid to the retina, where they cause rapid and severe visual loss if there is foveal involvement. This is a complication that appears associated with different ocular pathological processes such as angioid streaks.  A case study of a patient with elastic pseudoxanthoma diagnosed with choroidal neovascular membrane due to angioid streaks was carried out; with the objetive of describing the unusual presentation of it.  Precisely because of its rare appearance and constitute the most serious complication of angioid streaks; it propitiated the interest of proposing the presentation of a case. It was concluded that antiangiogenic therapy in general, and Avastin in particular, have offered very positive results in the treatment of choroidal neovascular membrane secondary to angioid streaks; being important the systematization of its follow-up for an optimal and early diagnosis and treatment.
